I am a Philosopher at the University of Durham in the UK. I work in moral philosophy, epistemology and philosophy of science. My current research concerns the mathematical structure and limits of theories of value, and the epistemology of the search for extraterrestrial life.
Before coming to Durham I was a Junior Research Fellow at Cambridge, where I took my PhD. I have been a visiting fellow at Stanford and Harvard, and a visiting student at Princeton. I am originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland.
My work has appeared in both philosophy and science journals, including Mind, The Journal of Philosophy, Noûs, Nature Astronomy and Astrobiology. Follow the links to my current projects on:
